Monthly report for December 2002 by Christian A. Hummel: Hummel re-analyzed NPOI test data taken in October with special LEDs to investigate detector non-linearities. This time, the focus was on fitting the exponential count rate decay at a number of intensity levels. He prepared a web page on the results. Hummel studied more systematically the stability and location of the fringe peaks in the fringe frequency spectrum for various observations performed recently. He concluded that calibration problems are related to the quality of the fringe spectrum throughout the night. Results were posted on the NPOI web site. Hummel added bias corrections of triple amplitude data to the standard NPOI data reduction software OYSTER. Recent observations of Be-stars in H-alpha light at low photon count rates revealed the necessity of such a correction. Hummel traveled to Flagstaff to instruct Dr. Ohishi, a visitor from the Japanese MIRA optical interferometer, in the use of OYSTER. He also consulted with Hutter and Benson on various issues.
