Monthly report for July 1998 by Christian A. Hummel: CAH enlarged and updated significantly the manual on the NPOI data reduction software OYSTER. (Significant, because that is what is a feature of a data reduction package for everybody using the NPOI.) CAH wrote a paper for the proceedings of the IAU colloquium 170 in Victoria, "PRECISE STELLAR RADIAL VELOCITIES", on "Imaging and modeling of double stars with the Navy Prototype Optical Interferometer: a continuation of the Mark III double star program". (Significant, because we have educated the spectroscopists on what can be done with an interferometer like NPOI.) CAH received word from AJ that the paper on "NPOI observations of double stars Mizar A and Matar" has been accepted with minor modifications. CAH prepared a revised version and submitted the paper to AJ. (This is the 4th NPOI publication in a refereed journal.) CAH reduced all Delta Cephei NPOI observations for an independent check on the Flagstaff reduction of the diameter changes. The agreement is good, but not perfect. (The significance of the diameter variations is marginal, therfore difficult to establish.)
