From July 7 to 17, I was in Flagstaff at the NPOI in order to install the latest version of CHAMELEON and to give instructions to interested scientists on how to use it. I also updated the corresponding user manual, and helped with fixing embedded system code related to astrometric computations. After returning from Flagstaff, I updated the CHAMELEON software with the new astrometry software release of NOVAS by USNO-AA, to which I linked planetary ephemeris software and data I downloaded from JPL. I also prepared my talk on "First Images of Mizar A from Long Baseline Interferometry" for the "International Workshop Visual Double Stars, Formation and Evolutionary Tracks", held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, July 29 to August 1. I spent a few days in Germany before returning to Washington on August 8. Back at USNO, I wrote up my paper for the conference proceedings, and also spent two days working on the formulation of scientific programs to be conducted by USRA scientists in a new contract with NRL based on a BAA. Through the end of August, I continued extensive work on AMOEBA to implement code for the fitting of binary orbits to visibility data. At the same time, the program structure was modified to accomodate general modeling of stars and hierarchical stellar systems to different types of data, e.g. interferometry and spectroscopy. No new data was obtained with NPOI due to construction. The proposal "Precise masses of Zeta Aurigae stars" to NSF to fund research in collaboration with P. Bennett was not submitted, due to unforeseen difficulties with the paperwork involved and lack of time. We expect to submit the proposal next year. In September, I received the referee report on my paper "The radio jet of 0153+744", which I had submitted to Astronomy & Astrophysics. He advised to publish the paper, after some major revisions have been made. I have worked on this for two weeks, and hope to submit the revised text in October. In the second half of September, I prepared a proposal to observe the quasar 0153+744 with the VLBA and Effelsberg with my colleagues at the MPIfR, Bonn. This proposal was submitted by the end of September.
