During the last quarter of 1994 I completed the paper on "Small angular scale binaries resolved with the Mark III", which is now released for publication in the Astronomical Journal by NRL, and will be submitted within the next two weeks. Part of the scientific discussion was improved after discussions with Deane Peterson from Stony Brook college during his stay with the OI group. From October 17 to 27, I was in Flagstaff to attend the dedication ceremonies of the NPOI. I also gave a 30 min review on scientific results obtained with the Mark III interferometer at the 2-day seminar on interferometry held at Lowell Observatory. The rest of this trip was spent helping with observations using the NPOI. Work on CHAMELEON did not make significant progress due to lack of data from NPOI. I decided to work on a set of routines which would compile observing lists selected from various astronomical catalogs. The programs try to estimate component separations and magnitude differences for binaries so that the more promising cases can be selected for observation. The software, STARBASE, a preliminary version of which has been finished, will also organize results and data on the binaries in form of a database. I have started to help out with observations of binaries with the Naval Observatory's 26-inch telescope on an occasional basis. This is to gain some observing experience with "normal" telescopes and because of the close relation of the speckle interferometry programme run at this telescope to my own research. I took four days of vacation at the end of the quarter.
