PHRS v70.0 installation instructions

1 PHRS v70.0

The latest version of PHRS is v70.0. Before trying to install and run it, you should read the release notes.

Change directory to where you want to install the PHRS system.
If in that directory there is no sub-directory called phrs-data, you'll need to create one according to the specification document.
Retrieve the PHRS v70.0 delivery package
If necessary, retrieve the Tcl/Tk and Java binary packages for Solaris into the same directory:
At this point you should have several gzipped tar files in your current directory.
Execute:
gunzip -c phrs-70.0.tar.gz | tar xovf - cd phrs-70.0 setenv PHRS $PWD make
This will create and populate a directory called phrs-70.0

At this point you may remove the gzipped tar files.

To run PHRS v70.0 you will need to set up some shell variables (you may wish to include these initializations in your ~/.tcshrc file):

PHRS should point to the directory where you installed the system: for instance
setenv PHRS $HOME/phrs-70.0
DSQUERY should be the name of the database server you want to connect to: for instance
setenv DSQUERY PROBS
PATH should contain $PHRS/bin; for instance:
setenv PATH $PATH":"$PHRS/bin
if you want to run the Long-Term Scheduler the LISP shell variable should be correctly set.
The Long-Term Scheduler needs a full Allegro Common Lisp installation on the same host. This environment variable should be set to the pathname of the installation directory, like /usr/local/acl4.3. If LISP is not set or it is empty, then the LTS will not be available.

You can then start PHRS v70.0 simply by issuing the phrs command. You should then see a printout similar to the following:

Starting PHRS with: PHRS: /home/users/amchavan/work/phrs-66.0 ... more lines ...

by which you can verify if the shell variables are properly set.
