xshift, yshift Shift the observation phase-center, CLEAN window and model positions. EXAMPLES -------- 1. 0>shift 10,-1 shift: Shifting UV data, clean models and windows by: 10 (mas) East shift: Shifting UV data, clean models and windows by: -1 (mas) North Total accumulated eastward shift = 10 (mas). Total accumulated northward shift = -1 (mas). 0> All but the first line are responses from the 'shift' command. 2. Shifts are applied incrementally. To see what the accumulated shifts are, omit all arguments: 0>shift Total accumulated eastward shift = 10 (mas). Total accumulated northward shift = -1 (mas). 0> 3. To remove the accumulated shift use the 'unshift' command. 0>unshift unshift: Removing accumulated position shifts. 0> PARAMETERS ---------- xshift - The distance to shift the source Eastwards. yshift - The distance to shift the source Northwards. CONTEXT ------- This command may be called at any time. It is useful for checking whether there is flux beyond the bounds of the map. It is also useful if one has a single sided source with a bright core at the center of the map. In the latter case, half of the map area is wasted. In this case the shift command may be used to better utilize the space available and thus allow a smaller map grid. A more complex use is to map a large area containing several widely separated sources. In this case the shift command is used to center the map on one source at a time while it is cleaned. This has the advantage that a smaller map grid may then be utilised to realize faster mapping and less memory usage. The 'shift' command modifies the observed and model visibilities simply by moving the phase center of the map. It also modifies the latest and established model component lists and any clean windows to have positions wrt the new phase center. SIDE EFFECTS ------------ The modifications to the UV data invalidate the current residual map. This will be re-calculated on the next 'invert'. Thus shifting the data incurs the overhead of an extra 'invert'. ASSOCIATED COMMANDS ------------------- unshift - Undo accumulated position shifts from the data, windows and models.
