GUI Plans for GXPHOT I. Applications Side 1. Upgrade code to latest version of APPHOT. -- done This involved modifying the internal storage for the aperture sums to be double precision, doing some minor algorithm tweaking, and incorporating recent APPHOT bug fixes into the code. 2. Add support for simple shape analysis. -- done This involved writing numerical and plotting code to do 2D moments analysis. 3. Add support for APPHOT/DAOPHOT style output files . -- done Final details of file format to be worked out. 4. Add automatic star finding options as in STARFIND/DAOFIND tasks. -- done Object list support is already in place along with graphics support for creating a list interactively, so this would involve adding an option for creating the list automatically. II. GUI Side 1. Add output file management support to GUI -- done 2. Complete adding input object list support to GUI -- done Almost completed when I stopped work on the GUI, needs final integration with existing GUI. 3. Finish work on the photometry aperture marker. -- done Involves providing a user menu, checking moving and resize callbacks etc. 4. Remove support for polygonal apertures from the GUI for now. -- done This simplifies problems like object list management and avoids problems with the current marker code. 5. Simplify and rearrange the results window. -- done Mostly style changes, adding support for new plot options, etc. 6. Style changes. -- done. This involves modifying the current GUIs to conform to the color, font, button label, help facility, widget appearance, standards that we develop as a group. III. Problems with Current GUI System Support 1. Need better multi-gterm widget support. I need to simultaneously maintain a gterm window displaying the image as well as one or more gterm widgets which display the results. I drive everything from the image display window. The problem is that cursor keys like 0, M, etc if executed in the image display window will show the last plot, e.g. usually the plot in one of the results windows. I don't know if there is any way around this in the current system but it is a major problem for combined graphics / imaging applications. I don't want to redisplay the window after every plot. -- still a problem 2. Need to be able to erase graphics overlays without erasing the image. Can currently do this on the screen but not in the graphics buffer. It is tedious to have to redisplay the image to get rid of the graphics. Frank found that a simple graphcap entry that will fix / work around this problem. -- need to check Franks fix 3. Various marker bug fixes. This are mostly in the polygon marker management code which I don't need right away, but I still have some problems with stacked markers, marker resizing etc. These are minor and can probably be lived with. -- done
