The following command-line options are available when starting ASSIST:

-windows <n>	the number of windows in each "stack" @break
                Use 1 for <n> for a "Macintosh" look @break
                (default is in AGS resource file). @break
-top 	display next argument as the top-level @break
		tree @break
-activate	start up next argument as an analysis @break
		processes (i.e. "iraf", "shell", "saotng", "xdir")
-iraf		bring up a separate IRAF window for @break
		and display the top-level IRAF tree @break
-nclxterm <xterm|xgterm> @break
		determines whether ASSIST should run @break
		xterm (default) or xgterm for IRAF @break
-xrm		The next argument is an X11 resource @break
		of the form "ASSIST*<name>:<value>" @break
		(no spaces!)

The following are not generally used. They are for special applications:

-Project	use next argument as the AGS Node @break
		directory instead of system default @break
-project	use the next argument as a project @break
		AGS Node directory (merge with @break
		system-level directory) @break
-display   use next argument as X11 display @break
		value instead of system default

To bring up the ASSIST with IRAF support and SAOtng:
