@b<This window will tell you about the top-level functions that are displayed when the ASSIST is first brought up>


The initial ASSIST window displays the following command buttons:

@b<Quit> @break
- Exit the ASSIST, XDir, and IRAF windows.

@b<View Tree> @break
- Display the top-level IRAF package as well as user defined tasks
and useful help tasks in a graph. @break
- The contents of the IRAF package can be displayed by clicking the
@b<left> mouse button on the desired package. @break
- The top-level graph also displays any tasks and programs specified by the user in the
user.tasks and user.programs files.  These tasks and programs are available directly
at this top-level, without traversing the IRAF tree. @break
- A set of helpful IRAF tasks are also displayed.

@b<Ask Questions> @break
- Display a menu of recipe and tutorial options. @break
- An option is chosen by clicking the @b<left> mouse button on the
desired button. @break
- This menu will also contain a button for personal recipes developed by the user and maintained in the user.recipes file.

@b<Other> @break
- Display a menu of ASSIST options. @break
- The @b<history> option will display the previously executed
ASSIST commands.  Clicking on an entry in this list will display
the entry again.  This is a good way to bring up package graphers,
etc. without having to traverse the tree.  @break
- The @b<tidy windows> option will bring all windows back into
their appropriate window stacks.
